The first advice that many woodland owners need is when they are purchasing a woodland for the first time - indeed, we are often retained to find particular types of woodland for purchase. We carry out both formal valuations prior to purchase and technical assessments of woodlands to evaluate the potential and to identify possible problems. Once purchased, an owner may wish to carry out most management themselves, but still feel the need for assistance when it comes to preparing a new forest design plan or long term management plan. Timber production forecasts, valuations for taxation purposes and advice on when and how to sell a woodland are other examples of professional advice for which we are frequently asked.
Potential woodland owners often seek our advice and help in finding a woodland that suits their requirements. We carry out formal assessments and valuations prior to purchase and, if the client's offer is accepted by the vendor, we can often be of assistance in raising points that need to be addressed prior to exchange of contracts.
Once purchase is complete, new woodland owners, and indeed existing ones, may wish to carry out day to day management themselves and may only require professional advice in the form of a management plan or for the purposes of applying for grant schemes.
